Why do we need an Emergency Services District?

Due to increasing emergency response demand, the BVFD emergency response capabilities are being overwhelmed.  The key to restoring reliability to local emergency response system is increasing the availability and timely deployment of resources.  The best solution to achieve response goals is converting to minimum paid firefighter responder staff located at the Bergheim fire station.  This approach requires a significant increase in funding.  Expected escalation in operating and maintenance costs will also increase future funding requirements.  Reliably obtaining increased long-term funding is doubtful with the current reliance on voluntary contributions.  An ESD would provide stable, increased funding for operations in the service area.  Many of the volunteer fire departments in the state of Texas have used the creation of an ESD to address similar funding/response capacity shortfalls.

What subdivisions would be included in the proposed ESD?

Hold Em Ranch, Pleasant ValleyEstates, Stonewall, Coveny Ranch, Cordillera Ranch, Kendall Woods Estates, Meadow Springs Estates, Dresden Wood, Sage Oaks, North Barcroft Estates, Waterstone, and The Crossing are included in the proposed ESD.
